Quality Counts 2016: EdWeek’s State Report Cards Map

Every year Education Week publishes Quality Counts a report card of how well – or poorly – the nation’s 50 states educate their K-12 students.

Edweek Grades

The map they publish shows in stark detail that American students have vastly different prospects for successful life outcomes, depending on where they are lucky – or unlucky – enough to live.

Education Week reporters and researchers calculate their ‘grades’ using three indices: how well the state’s education promotes positive life outcomes; current K-12 academic performance, how it’s changing over time, and poverty-based achievement gaps; and spending patterns and resource equity. Check out your state, then be a witness – a voice crying in the wilderness if necessary – celebrate the good and call attention to the not good enough.
